A common method to identify intervals by ear is to associate them with songs, so called interval reference songs. For example, a descending minor third can be identified as being equal to the beginning of the song Hey Jude. Use the song charts below to make your own list of reference songs that you know well. Pick one song for each interval and remember that some intervals may more easily be identified by their unique and distinct sound.
